Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is widely expected to make his return to the field for the team’s 2026 NFL season opener after tearing his ACL in Week 11 of last season.
Mahomes’ injury put the nail in the coffin of KC’s season last year, as they were on pace to miss the postseason even with Mahomes playing the first 11 weeks of the season.
His injury allowed the franchise to reset and come into this season with new energy, as Mahomes fought through rehab to ensure he is available for their opener against the Denver Broncos.

Mahomes shared a video on his Instagram where he is practicing behind-the-back passes at full speed. While it’s an unconventional thing to practice, it drew attention from fans of the Chiefs and his biggest haters.
Mahomes is not listed on any of the Chiefs’ injury lists and has been a full participant in their recent practices.
Despite missing the entirety of preseason out of caution, Mahomes will find himself in the middle of a high-pressure NFL game to start the season.
The Broncos had a clear edge over the Chiefs last season, and it’ll be fascinating to see if a rested Chiefs squad and a revitalised Mahomes can help the franchise rediscover their Super Bowl-winning form.

Fans loved to see Mahomes practicing in such a unique fashion.
