The Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, has commenced investigation into seven prominent Nigerians exposed in Panama Papers and Pandora Papers over undeclared offshore assets.
According to PREMIUM TIMES, those under probe are the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and former Senate Presidents Bukola Saraki and David Mark respectively.
Others are former Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, late Bayelsa State Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, former Delta Governor James Ibori, and retired Delta judicial officer Stella Ogene.
The platform reported that sources at the CCB confirmed that case officers have been assigned and investigations have commenced.
“All the Nigerian officials named in the Panama and Pandora papers will be investigated. But seven of them have been assigned to case officers who have already commenced investigations,” a CCB source said.
The bureau is investigating whether they violated asset declaration laws by using offshore companies to hold assets while in public office and maintaining foreign bank accounts, which is prohibited for public officers.
CCB said its chairman’s aide confirmed the probe, stating that it would extend investigations to other Nigerians named in the leaks.
“The allegations do not automatically establish wrongdoing,” CCB noted.
