The Green Bay Packers received encouraging news on defense Thursday as cornerback Keisean Nixon returned to practice ahead of their Week 6 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. Nixon missed Wednesday’s session because of a groin issue but participated on a limited basis the following day.
Head coach Matt LaFleur explained that Nixon had been experiencing discomfort in his groin, leading the team to keep him out as a precaution. His return to the field is an encouraging sign, although his availability for Sunday’s game remains uncertain. The Packers’ final injury report on Friday should provide a clearer indication of his status.
Nixon’s health is particularly relevant as Green Bay prepares to face a Cowboys offense featuring wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. The 29-year-old has improved his coverage numbers this season following a disappointing finish to the 2025 campaign.

Against the Chicago Bears last Sunday, Nixon faced eight targets and allowed four receptions for 26 yards. In the previous week’s matchup versus Jalon Daniels, he surrendered five catches for just 20 yards on seven targets. He has allowed an opposing passer rating of 65.3 when targeted this season, his lowest single-season figure, compared with 105.1 last year.
Nixon was among seven Packers players limited during Thursday’s practice. The group also included offensive lineman Aaron Banks (knee/toe), offensive lineman Jacob Monk (quadricep), defensive tackles Anthony Campbell (ankle), Jordon Riley (Achilles), and Devonte Wyatt (ankle), along with wide receiver Savion Williams (ankle).
Four players did not participate, including defensive tackles Jonathan Ford (calf) and Javon Hargrave (Achilles), wide receiver Skyy Moore (ankle), and cornerback Benjamin St-Juste (hamstring). Hargrave is expected to be placed on injured reserve in the coming days.
Safety Evan Williams improved to full participation after being limited Wednesday because of an illness. Edge rusher Lukas Van Ness also practiced fully despite a shoulder issue.
