Could another injury create a new level of rock bottom for the Green Bay Packers offensive line? According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Packers center Sean Rhyan needed to get an X-ray on the thumb of his right hand — his snapping hand — after Thursday night’s 35-14 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
Rhyan, who signed a $33 million deal to return to the Packers this offseason, has started the first three games of the 2026 season at center.
The Packers don’t play again until Sunday of next week, so Rhyan and the rest of his teammates will get extra time to heal and rest before going to Tampa to play the Buccaneers in Week 4.
What would happen if Rhyan has to miss time or move positions because he can’t snap the ball with his right hand? Jacob Monk, who also left Thursday night’s game with an unspecified injury, has experience at center and would be a likely replacement candidate. It’s possible the Packers could switch the two players — having Rhyan play right guard, and Monk play center — if Rhyan can’t snap but can play.
Rookie Jager Burton had a nightmare first start on Thursday night but was a starting center for multiple seasons at the collegiate level.
Rhyan has been arguably the best starter along a terrible offensive line to start 2026. Losing him for any stretch of time could turn an increasingly bad situation into a truly ugly one.
