Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur said his team believes linebacker Edgerrin Cooper suffered a season-ending Achilles tendon injury during Sunday’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
When asked about Cooper’s outlook at his post-game press conference, LaFleur answered “not good,” and he said he “would suspect” the injury is season ending.
With Larry McCarren of the Packers Radio Network after the 17-14 win, LaFleur said the injury “doesn’t look good” and he called losing Cooper a “huge blow” to the team.
“I hurt for him, I hurt for our team,” LaFleur told McCarren.
Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports reported the “initial fear” is an Achilles tendon tear for Cooper. More than likely, the team will have imaging done in Green Bay on Monday to confirm the injury.
Cooper went down during the third quarter. He immediately grabbed at his left ankle and calf, and after a brief evaluation he was carted off the field. The mechanism of the injury and Cooper’s reaction immediately created fear of a significant Achilles tendon injury.
The Packers used Isaiah McDuffie and Ty’Ron Hopper as backups after Cooper left the game. If his injury is season-ending, McDuffie and veteran Zaire Franklin will be the expected starters the rest of the way.
Cooper would join receiver Jayden Reed (neck) and right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele (knee) as Packers starters suffering season-ending injuries during the first four weeks of the 2026 season.
