OU football coach Brent Venables offers injury updates on Kip Lewis, Michael Fasusi

NORMAN — OU football coach Brent Venables offered some updates on a couple of injuries affecting the Sooners following their 17-10 road loss to Michigan on Saturday.

Linebacker Kip Lewis left the game in the first half with an apparent right knee injury and spent the second half on the sidelines in street clothes. Venables said he didn’t know for sure what the extent of the injury was but that’d he’d “miss some time.” Lewis is a captain and was OU’s leading tackler last season.

Left tackle Michael Fasusi didn’t play Saturday after appearing to re-injure his shoulder against UTEP last week. Venables said he knew the sophomore wasn’t going to play against the Wolverines but that his injury is more short term as opposed to long term.

Venables on Ryan Fodje, who started Saturday after missing Week 1: “Ryan did well. Certainly, wasn’t perfect. Probably a little rusty. I got to watch the tape to be fair. But Ryan did a great job, coming back off of his injury.”

The Sooners will look to bounce back next week when they face New Mexico at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, on ESPN2.
