New York Knicks owner James Dolan has come under a lot of criticism after The Athletic revealed that the assistant coaches were not given championship rings despite getting ring boxes.
The Athletic, during its investigation, was not able to confirm if head coach Mike Brown received his ring.
To add to the disappointment of the staff, in September, employees on the team were sent an email that they would be receiving rings, asking them to choose from two designs. However, it turned out that this was part of a phishing test.
Employees who clicked on the link below the email were asked to take a mandatory cybersecurity class.
“We are not disclosing anything about the rings,” an MSG spokesperson said in a statement to The Athletic.

Dolan is not the most loved owner in the NBA. He has been around the team since 1999, and since then, there have been a lot of bad decisions that Dolan has been called out for. The 71-year-old has had incidents with fans where they have asked him to sell the team.
Although he helped end the 53-year drought for a championship, analysts have mentioned how the ownership of the Knicks could still be a problem.
Already, there are question marks about whether they will be able to re-sign Karl-Anthony Towns. Amid that, the treatment of the staff has caused anger among fans.
An account user on X said: “The worst owner in sports; the worst owner in the history of NY sports,” while another strongly opined: “James Dolan is a real piece of s***.”
“James Dolan continues to prove he’s one of the worst owners in all of professional sports,” another fan stated.
“I love the Knicks, and I’m elated they won a title. Also, James Dolan is the worst. He’s always been the worst. He remains the worst,” a critic of Dolan wrote.
Someone also remarked: “I’m not even a New York Knicks fan and I find this almost on the level of a cartoon villain. Let the assistant coaches have their rings. They won despite James Dolan.”
Despite all that was happening behind the scenes, the night was special for New York, as for the first time in 53 years, a championship banner was raised to the rafters. Although the team lost the game to the Philadelphia 76ers, the hope is that they bounce back and once again compete for the Larry O’Brien trophy.
