Ondřej Lingr closing in on Houston Dynamo exit

Czech international Ondřej Lingr is set to leave MLS side Houston Dynamo for Polish Ekstraklasa club Korona Kielce, with the midfielder due to arrive in Europe on Wednesday to complete the move, according to Meczyki.pl.

It would be a rapid, unexpected exit from MLS for a player signed with marquee-level billing barely eighteen months ago.

Reporter Tomasz Włodarczyk writes that Korona will pay around €1 million including bonuses for the 27-year-old, who is expected to sign this week once he lands in Poland and finalises the paperwork. Echo Dnia Świętokrzyskie describes it as a potential statement signing for the Ekstraklasa club, noting Lingr would arrive as Korona’s second Czech midfielder addition of the summer, following Patrik Hellebrandt’s move from Górnik Zabrze, and that the club’s leadership has been chasing a marquee-name reinforcement of this profile for some time.

Lingr came through Sparta Prague’s academy before moving to Slavia Praha, where his form earned a €4 million transfer to Feyenoord.

He won 25 caps for the Czech Republic and featured at EURO 2024 before joining Houston Dynamo as a Designated Player, going on to make 43 MLS appearances and score three goals for the club. A move to Poland’s top flight, one tier below where he has played for most of his career, would mark an unusual step down for a player still inside his prime, but Polish outlet Sportowe Fakty frames it as a chance for regular football back in Europe after over a year in MLS.

For Korona Kielce, sitting mid-table in the Ekstraklasa, signing a EURO 2024 participant with a €4 million transfer on his CV would be one of the club’s most eye-catching moves in years.

For Houston Dynamo, letting a Designated Player leave for a modest fee after roughly eighteen months suggests Lingr’s spell in MLS did not work out as either side had hoped when he arrived with marquee-signing status.

Status: The move is close to being finalised. A fee of around €1 million has been agreed, and Lingr is expected to travel to Poland this week to sign, though the transfer has not yet been officially confirmed by either club.
