Ole Miss takes page from Oregon’s playbook with NYC Heisman campaign

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

That’s how Oregon Duck fans are likely feeling this morning, as images of Ole Miss Rebels stars Trinidad Chambliss and Kewan Lacy have appeared on new billboards in New York City, launching their Heisman Trophy campaigns nationwide in Times Square.

The #H6I5MEN campaign is among us. Just like the “And There’s Moore!” campaign from earlier this summer, the “Bo-Dacious” campaign from 2023, and the “Joey Heisman” campaign from all the way back in 2001. Putting up billboards in major metropolitan areas is nothing new in the world of college football, and credit to Ole Miss for getting their biggest players’ faces out there ahead of the season, looking to drum up some buzz and interest.

In the age of name, image, and likeness, it’s not surprising to see stuff like this pop up, as more and more athletes are likely to have marketing stipulations like this somewhere in their contract.

Earlier this summer, Oregon QB Dante Moore saw his face grace the buildings of Tokyo, Japan, as the team took a trip across the pond for an Oregon-Tokyo football skills camp, allowing players to acclimate themselves to a new culture and reach a new audience.

It will be interesting to see if other teams follow Oregon’s lead there, just as they have with the Heisman campaign in New York City.

It will also be interesting to see whether this affects the betting lines for the award. Before the billboards of the Ole Miss stars went up, Chambliss was listed at +1500 to win the award according to FanDuel Sportsbook, which is tied for the sixth-best odds in the nation. Meanwhile, Lacy has +12500 odds, the 36th-best in the nation.

Meanwhile, Moore has the fourth-best odds currently, at +1100.
