OXFORD — When Ole Miss football star running back Kewan Lacy returned to game action on Oct. 10 against Vanderbilt, it was the first time he’d been hit since suffering a shoulder injury on Sept. 26 at Florida.
He wasn’t hit very much against the Commodores.
“It went as good as it possibly could have,” Ole Miss coach Pete Golding said Oct. 12.
The No. 10 Rebels (4-1, 2-1 SEC) beat Vanderbilt 52-17. Because they amassed a 42-3 halftime lead, Lacy did not play in the second half. He got seven carries and rushed for 39 yards and a touchdown.

51 / 51He is managing a left shoulder injury, which is the same shoulder he had offseason surgery on. Golding said Lacy was in good shape after the game, and Ole Miss will continue to keep his practice workload light heading into a game against No. 13 Missouri (5-1, 2-1) on Oct. 17 (2:30 p.m. CT, SEC Network).
“I think he’s feeling really good,” Golding said. “He came in yesterday, I thought he was going to be a lot sorer than he was. I think the way the game went helped a little bit, as far as from a management standpoint of it.”
Despite not playing in Week 3, Lacy has a team high in rushes (46) and yards (230). Running backs Makhi Frazier and JT Lindsey have been getting the carries when Lacy is out.
“I think it was really good for (Lacy’s) confidence to get out there and (the shoulder injury) not be an issue,” Golding said. “Get some good experience back with the guys.”
Ole Miss safety Edwin Joseph rolled his ankle against Vanderbilt. He left the game and has a diagnosis.
“My only concern from Saturday, from an injury standpoint, would be Edwin,” Golding said. “It is an ankle. Got diagnosed yesterday with an ankle sprain. We’re going to get another opinion on that tomorrow. We’ll manage it throughout the week.”
Joseph, a senior transfer from Florida State, is a starter who has played all five games for the Rebels. He has 18 tackles this season.
