Oklahoma dominated Alabama 9-0 in the double elimination round. Oklahoma scored in four of the nine innings en route to a World Series shutout. Included in the Sooner win was eleven hits on offense while only surrendering five hits to the Crimson Tide.
Sooners catcher Deiten Lachance had the game’s only homerun; a two-run shot. Lachance is also facing a potential ankle injury after slipping on second base. After the game Lachance was asked about the injury. “I felt fine,” Lachance said while grinning. “100%, good to go. There’s no problems.” He is visibly grimacing and limping. Lachance’s health heading into the Sooner’s next game will be a storyline to follow.
Starting pitcher Cord Rager also put together seven strong shutout innings. Throwing 63 strikes on 87 pitches. Including two three-up-three-down innings to start the game. Rager would retire the side while only facing three batters in five of his seven innings. Rager is only the third Oklahoma pitcher to throw seven or more innings, while allowing no runs in Oklahoma College World Series history.
Oklahoma will now wait to see who their opponent will be when they take the field on Monday. That game is tentatively scheduled for 7pm EST and will broadcast on Monday June 8 on ESPN.
