Both teams enter Week 5 with 3-1 overall records. Revere is 1-0 in the Suburban League American Conference and Copley is 0-1.

Revere is coached by Robert Nickol and Copley is coached by John Kromalic. Both teams made the Division III playoffs in Region 13 in 2025.

Nickol is in his fifth year at Revere (26-22) and ninth overall (47-37; 24-16 at St. Vincent-St. Mary). Revere went 8-3 overall and 5-2 in the Suburban League American Conference in 2025.

Kromalic is in his fourth year as Copley’s coach (16-20). Copley went 7-4 overall and 5-2 in the Suburban League American Conference in 2025.

Revere has won three in a row after opening the season with a loss and Copley lost last week after opening the season with three wins in a row. The winner of this game gets “The Bell.”

Revere topped Twinsburg 28-26 last week with the Hajdu brothers, Lane Shenigo, TJ Meech and Ryan Tompkins playing key roles. Revere QB Carter Hajdu threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to TJ Meech, and scored TDs on runs of 1 and 4 yards. Tompkins added a 46-yard TD run. Brady Hajdu, who is Carter Hajdu’s twin, had three tackles on fourth-down plays. Davis Hajdu, the oldest brother, blocked a PAT. Shenigo ran for 120 yards on 22 carries and intercepted a pass.

The Hajdu brothers father, Hayden Hajdu, played as an offensive lineman on the 1990 Revere state runner-up team.

Davis Hajdu has 30 tackles (16 solos, 14 assists) in four games this season with two interceptions and a forced fumble. Brady Hajdu has 20 carries for 59 yards and two TDs, two catches for 21 yards and 18 tackles (10 solos, eight assists). Carter Hajdu has completed 30 of 67 passes for 566 yards with two TDs and six interceptions, and has run for 71 yards and two TDs on 21 carries.

Ethan Dennis made a 22-yard field goal as time expired to lift host Kenston to a 45-42 win over Copley last week. Copley QB Dane Wininger threw five TD passes, four of them to Noah Slattery, covering 12, 81, 45 and 19 yards. Wininger also connected with Mason Chapman on a 5-yard TD pass and Jalen Owens contributed a 54-yard TD run.

The 75th meeting last year between Revere and Copley ended with David Kennedy making a 36-yard field goal as time expired to lift the host Minutemen to a Suburban League American Conference win.

This is the 76th meeting between the teams. Revere holds a 38-37 edge in the rivalry with last year’s victory as time expired. Copley defeated Revere 47-35 in a Week 9 regular-season game in 2024, and two weeks later ninth-seeded Revere defeated eighth-seeded Copley 34-28 in a Division III, Region 10 first-round playoff game.

According to Phil Heyn of Revere, the rivalry began before the formation of Revere, back when the Bath Buccaneers and the Richfield Rockets played against Copley in the Old Summit County League.

The current schools first played each other in football in 1950 and 1951. There were no games in 1952 and 1953. The series resumed in 1954 and there has been a regular-season game every year since then.

Copley won the games against Revere in 1950, 1951, 1954, 1955 and 1956. Revere won in 1957, 1958 and 1959.

Copley held a 14-6 edge in the series from 1950 to 1971, with six wins in a row from 1960 to 1965.

Revere compiled a 16-5 edge in the series from 1972-1992, with seven wins in a row from 1977 to 1983 and 1986 to 1992 to lead the series 22-19.

From 1993 to the present, Copley has 18 wins and Revere has 15 wins. Revere had a five-game win streak from 1994-1998. Copley had four-game win streaks from 2002-2005 and 2014-2017.

Revere has won six of the nine games since 2018, including the playoff game in 2025.

Nickol identified senior two-way linemen Jackson Farrow and Ryan Ferrara and senior tight end-linemen Joel Caipen and Michael Mark as leaders to watch. … “Jackson was a first-team All-Suburban League and honorable mention all-district player as a junior,” Nickol said. “He will be anchoring the left tackle position and rotating in at defensive tackle. Ryan was second-team All-Suburban League as a junior. He will be playing a variety of positions on the offensive line, and will also help with depth at defensive tackle. Joel was second-team All-Suburban League last season and finished second on the team with seven sacks. He will be playing the defensive end position and rotating at tight end on offense. Michael was second-team All-Suburban League last season and had 8½ tackles for loss. He will also play the tight end and defensive end positions.” … Caipen had seven sacks last year.

Wininger, Owens, Enberg, Chatmon and Kuczkowski are players to watch. … Wininger completed 87 of 157 passes for 1,381 yards and 15 touchdowns and ran for 324 yards and eight TDs on 54 carries last season. … “Dane Wininger is a very talented football player,” fourth-year coach John Kromalic said. “He started four games as a freshman and nine games as a sophomore. He is a dual-threat QB who has been under the radar in Northeast Ohio. Dane has a very accurate arm and runs very well.” … Owens had 46 carries for 321 and two TDs rushing last season, and recorded five interceptions with one returned for a TD. … “Jalen Owens is one of the best athletes on the field consistently,” Kromalic said. “Last year, he was a dominant force on defense, and this year we expect him to make big plays on both sides of the ball. He is a punter, returner, defensive back and running back. He is a ‘Mr. Do Everything.'” … Enberg has several scholarship offers, including from Butler and Valparaiso. … “Niko Enberg has been one of the most dominant tackles on the field the past three seasons,” Kromalic said. “He is quick and strong.” … Chatmon had 31 tackles (19 solos, 10 for loss) and eight sacks last season. … “Justin Chatmon is one of the most athletic defensive ends in the league,” Kromalic said. “We expect him to have a big year on defense this season. His strength and speed provide issues for all offensive linemen.” … Kuczkowski had 34 catches for 428 yards and two TDs, and returned a fumble for a TD last season. … “Jacob Kuczkowski has been one of our best receivers the past three seasons,” Kromalic said. “He has started since the first game his freshman year. He will also be playing safety.”

Nickol said Revere “will have many new faces in 2026.” … Revere graduated 18 seniors and 15 starters from 2025. … “The team will have to navigate through a very tough Suburban League American Conference with the additions of Kenston, Twinsburg, Brecksville and Mayfield,” Nickol said. “A few rising players this year will be junior QB Carter Hajdu, senior RB-DB Calvin Childs III, senior RB-DB Sam Childs, senior WR-DB Davis Hajdu, junior OL-DL Teagan Klein, junior WR-DB T.J Meech, junior OL-DL Luca Mutersbaugh, junior RB-LB Lane Shenigo, junior TE-DL Brooks Christman, senior K David Kennedy and junior WR-DB Tyler Parker.” … Carter Hajdu (6-0, 165) is the projected starting QB after playing junior varsity last year. His twin brother, Brady (5-9, 180), also played JV last year and will be a key running back this year along with Calvin Childs III and Lane Shenigo. Davis Hajdu is Brady and Carter’s older brother. … Calvin Childs III, who is not related to Sam Childs, was injured last season after contributing as a varsity RB as a sophomore. … Nickol said Davis Hajdu and Meech will generally line up as slot receivers. Mark and Christman are Revere’s top tight ends. … Freshman Ryan Tompkins (6-1, 195) is set to start at linebacker.

Copley lost several key players to graduation, including top offensive lineman Lucas Tielsch, leading receiver Andrew McKnight, leading rusher Bryce Martin and defensive standouts Hendrix Sickels, Donovan Crook, Collin WitherspoonII and Rhalachai Childs. Tielsch is a freshman player at the University of Minnesota after earning All-Ohio honors last season with 46 pancake blocks and helping Copley gain 4,080 yards and score 52 TDs. … “We will be replacing more than half of our players on both sides of the ball, or pretty close to it,” Kromalic said. “We are going to have to grow up rather quickly. We talk about going 1-0 each week and attacking each week as it comes, so a lot of these guys are going to get their first Friday night experience [on Aug. 21]. It will be interesting to see how they overcome adversity and how they bond together. I am excited to see how that plays out throughout the season.” … Copley welcomes transfer Jordan Saunders, a junior who previously played at Cuyahoga Falls. Saunders (5-10, 155) plays cornerback and wide receiver and returns punts and kickoffs. Owens also return punts and kickoffs. … “Noah Slattery is a slot receiver we expect to take a big step this year,” Kromalic said. “He will be replacing McKnight in that slot. Noah is a quick kid as well. Runs really well and catches the ball pretty consistently.” … McKnight earned All-Ohio honors last year with 51 catches for 1,098 yards and 17 TDs and is a freshman player at Ashland University. McKnight also averaged 37.2 yards on 26 punts. … Sickels (Mount Union) and Martin (Lake Erie) also received All-Ohio nods. Sickels had 123 tackles (13 for loss), three sacks and a forced fumble last year. Martin totaled 165 carries for 1,225 yards and 17 TDs and six catches for 60 yards and a TD. … “[Junior] Breylen Stanford is an outside receiver for us and he will play defensive back as well,” Kromalic said. “I think he will have a solid year. Jalen Owens is going to be carrying the ball more this year than he has in years past. He will be taking over the primary running back responsibility on the team this year. We are excited to see how he does this year.” … Dorsey will join Smith at middle linebacker.

Revere ended the 2025 season at home with a 24-21 over rival Copley in Week 10 and a 23-14 loss to Rocky River in a Division III playoff game. … Revere moves forward after graduating five of its best players from last season — three-time All-Suburban League American Conference first-team offensive lineman Joe Rozak, defensive lineman Elijah Sedor, linebacker Nick Hall, wide receiver-cornerback Harrison Drvenkar and running back-linebacker James Perry. Perry is playing at Gannon University. … On offense, Revere returns starters Farrow at left tackle, Ferrara at left guard, Meech at wide receiver, Sam Childs at fullback and center Mutersbaugh, who played right guard last year. … On defense, the Minutemen return starters Caipen and Mark at defensive end, Shenigo at linebacker and Davis Hajdu at safety. … “The 2026 Revere Minutemen are coming off three straight playoff appearances and the program’s most wins [eight] in a season since 1998,” Nickol said. “Competition will be plentiful this summer as we look to replace 15 starting positions from 2025. Many rising 11th and 12th graders were able to get experience throughout last season. The team’s strengths will be up front on both sides of the ball with four all-league returners. The skill positions will be relatively young early on. It will once again be a very competitive league. Health and depth will be critical for a successful season.”

Copley returns six starters on offense — Wininger at quarterback, Kuczkowski and Manson at wide receiver, Enberg at right tackle, Rogers-Corn at left guard and Rau at right guard. … Copley returns four starters on defense — Smith at middle linebacker, Chatmon and Chapman at end and Owens at strong safety. … Panzner returns as the kicker after making 52 of 54 PATs in 2025. … “We are excited to see some new faces this season,” Kromalic said. “We will rely on strong leadership from our seniors to help our team mature quickly. … This will be a year of growth. That is what we want with a young group. We have strong junior and sophomore classes.”
