Oh, Goodbye: 2027 CB Semajay Robinson Flips Commitment to UVA

Penn State had a productive first official visit weekend, but it wasn’t all good news as Florida cornerback Semajay Robinson decommitted from Penn State and flipped to UVA.

Robinson was the first commitment in the 2027 class after Matt Campbell took over, and he now becomes the first decommit for Matt Campbell in the 2027 class too. How fun. Anyway, Robinson officially visited Penn State over the weekend while he’s been in the midst of visiting other schools. He visited UVA last weekend, and was scheduled to go to Mississippi State and USF the following two weekends. So I imagine there was going to be some clarity coming out of this weekend regardless: Robinson would either stay in the PSU class and stop with the other visits, or he’d call off his verbal commitment and figure out what to do next. And although things seemed to be going swimmingly…

…the love did not last. Robinson flipped to the Hoos on Tuesday morning, with Virginia Tech fans acting like they won the lottery because the previous institution of their current head coach lost a commit to their “rival” school.

Virginia Tech Franklin-erotica aside, what does this mean for Penn State? Well, depends on your perspective. Semajay Robinson is a very talented prospect, but he’s a bit of a project and you can see that with his rankings. Rivals has him as a four-star and ranked the 255th player in the country. 247 has him as an 86 three-star and the 117th ranked corner — not player overall, just corner. So two greatly varying opinions, but that makes sense given Semajay archetype. While Penn State and cornerbacks coach Terry Smith clearly saw something they liked with Robinson, they still do have three corners in the class and are scheduled to officially host Texas prospect Dillon McGee this weekend.
