CINCINNATI — Tobias Myers had been one of the Mets’ most oft-used relief pitchers through the first full two months of the season, and that ended up spelling a trip north.

With Myers throwing 33⅓ innings over 20 appearances through May and the bullpen in a pinch, the Mets decided to provide the 27-year-old right-hander with a bit of a reprieve when they optioned him to Triple-A Syracuse on May 30.

Now, after the minimal stint in the minor leagues, the Mets have brought back Myers to start Monday’s game against the Reds at 7:10 p.m. at Great American Ball Park.

“You’re always looking for ways to improve with anybody,” Carlos Mendoza said. “I think every time you get an opportunity to go down there and work on something, I think it was more like his secondary pitches, not necessarily the split, but more like the breaking ball.

“What makes him who he is is his ability to throw the fastball at the top, get swing-and-misses with the changeup-split and use the cutter a little bit.”

In his last 10 appearances with the Mets, Myers allowed 10 earned runs in 11⅓ innings, watching his ERA drift from 2.05 to 4.05. Myers threw 36 pitches across 2⅔ innings in his last minor league outing, so his workload will be closely monitored.

The Mets will be going up against one of the top pitchers in the National League on Monday, as Chase Burns makes his 14th start for the Reds. The 23-year-old righty is 7-1 with a 2.14 ERA and has only allowed more than two earned runs once this season. He held the Mets to two earned runs over 5⅓ innings in a win back on May 26.

The Mets are coming off a series win over the Braves last weekend to improve to 32-39, while the Reds (33-37) have lost their last five series.
