NY Mets vs Guardians live updates, score and analysis of Wednesday game

CLEVELAND — When the Mets offense is clicking, they have dominated this season.

With Monday night’s 6-2 victory, they are now 33-5 this season when they have scored five or more runs. The only problem is that their 38 games with that many runs are the fewest in the National League.

The Mets will be hoping to continue to find that level of production in the second game of the series at 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday night at Progressive Field.

In Monday’s win, Luis Torrens homered and drove in four runs. Carson Benge tagged a 451-foot home run – the longest blast at Progressive Field since Aaron Judge on April 14, 2024. Bo Bichette added his first home run since June 24.

The Mets will be hoping that is a sign of a changing tide following the MLB trade deadline when they dealt eight major league players, including seven pitchers.

Christian Scott will be looking to build off his longest start of the season. In the second game of a doubleheader against the Braves on July 29, Scott allowed one earned run on five hits and one walk with seven strikeouts in six innings.

Scott enters Wednesday’s game with a 3-3 record and a 2.99 ERA.

The Mets will be going up against Guardians right-hander Tanner Bibee, who is 4-1 with a 3.81 ERA in 23 starts. He was another tough-luck loser last time out when he fell to the Diamondbacks despite giving up two earned runs on three hits and one walk with three strikeouts in 7⅓ innings.
