NOUN enrols 36 Ikoyi inmates in degree and postgraduate programmes

The Director of NOUN’s Lagos Study Centre in Victoria Island, Professor Inua Ofe, formally received the students into the university and administered the matriculation oath.

Other officials at the ceremony included Raphael Unazi, who represented the Assistant Controller-General of Corrections for Zone A, and Deputy Controller of Corrections Adebukola Adetula.

Representatives of organisations involved in correctional support and rehabilitation also attended the event. They included Baptist Prison Ministry, House on the Rock, TREM and BITS BY MANI.

Their presence reflected the contributions of faith-based groups, private organisations and other partners to initiatives aimed at improving inmates’ welfare and expanding their access to educational opportunities.

In his vote of thanks, the Officer-in-Charge of the Ikoyi custodial centre, Deputy Controller of Corrections Ebereonwu Ogueri, appreciated NOUN, the leadership of the correctional service and the supporting organisations for their continued contributions to inmate education.

Ogueri acknowledged the role of the partners in advancing learning opportunities and strengthening rehabilitation efforts within the custodial system.

The Lagos State Command reaffirmed its commitment to working with educational institutions and other organisations to promote learning, reformation and the successful reintegration of inmates into society.

It added that access to higher education could help inmates improve their knowledge, earn recognised academic qualifications and prepare for more productive lives after completing their custodial sentences.

The statement was signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Corrections Onimisi Osho.
