It’s been a tough time for one of Notre Dame football’s 2026 transfers, as an injury has prevented him from really getting his South Bend career started.
Quincy Porter transferred from Ohio State to the Irish in the offseason, and the former 5-star from New Jersey brought with him plenty of expectations. However, a knee injury suffered in January hasn’t allowed him to get back to the field.
Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman gave an update on his status Thursday afternoon, saying that Porter has been doing individual drills, “more than he’s ever done since he’s got here,” but his return is still murky. Right now he believes that it will be a few weeks away, but at that point it might be hard to mix him in.
The top three receiver are Jordan Faison, Jaden Greathouse and Micah Gilbert, and the rotation hasn’t been large. We’ve seen Mylan Graham get time in close games, as the rest of the unit has played extensively when games have been out of hand. It would be great to see Porter make a positive contribution to the team this fall as we all know he’s got the potential to be a difference maker for Notre Dame’s offense.

Porter is not participating in full-team drills in practice, but he’s doing individual drills. Freeman said Porter is still “a couple weeks” away, but he’s getting closer.
