Though heat may have delayed the start of Week 3, a great night of high school football is shaping up across Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana.
East Central, fresh off a Week 2 win against top-ranked defending champion New Palestine, might somehow have an even tougher test in Week 3. The Trojans travel to The Pit to face the Elder Panthers, who have clobbered Middletown and Covington Catholic the past two weeks. Both teams are clearly state title contenders in Indiana and Ohio, respectively, but we should learn a lot about the pecking order in the Tri-State.
Cooper hosts Ryle in the Battle of Union with each team developing a new-look roster. Both 1-1, Ryle is coming off a 36-21 win against Conner while Cooper is licking its wounds following a 45-6 loss to Highlands. If Cooper can win, it will be the Jaguars first three-game winning streak in the rivalry.
Covington Catholic is looking to bounce back from a tough loss as Simon Kenton comes to town. The Pioneers are 2-0 following a solid win over Dixie Heights and holding off a Western Brown comeback; the Colonels crushed Ryle in Week 1 before getting rolled by Elder. CovCath has been dominant in the series historically, but Simon Kenton could secure its first win over the Colonels since 1998.
