North-eastern university approves up to 65% salary increment for staff

GOMBE, NIGERIA – The North-Eastern University, Gombe (formerly Pen Resource University), has approved a major salary increase ranging between 40 per cent and 65 per cent across all categories of its academic and non-academic workforce.

Announcing the adjustment in an official statement issued on Monday, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mukhtar Saulawa, highlighted that the review marks the third major upward salary revision authorised by the Pro-Chancellor and Founder, Dr Sani Jauro, within three years.

Explaining the rationale behind prioritising competitive staff welfare despite rising operational costs, Pro-Chancellor Dr Sani Jauro cited his personal background as a university lecturer and former member of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

“I was a member of ASUU as far back as 1989, so I know the pains and pleasures of being a university lecturer,” Jauro stated. “Education is our family legacy. Besides, this university is conceived as a flagship university that brings to life what our ASUU struggles tried in vain to do all these years.”

In a related developmental initiative, Dr Jauro approved a 50 per cent tuition scholarship for all newly admitted students across six targeted degree programs: Petroleum Chemistry, Environmental Management and Toxicology, Industrial Chemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology, and Urban and Regional Planning.

The selected fields are strategically aligned to develop local technical capacity for emerging petroleum, environmental, and industrial opportunities tied to the Kolmani energy corridor spanning Gombe and Bauchi states.
