NM United match in Alabama postponed

Rain, rain, go away?

New Mexico United’s match at Birmingham Legion FC was postponed to 5 p.m. Saturday due to inclement weather, the clubs announced Friday. United and Legion were originally scheduled to play at 6 p.m. Friday.

Saturday’s match will take place at Dunnavant Valley Fields — a 50-acre public sports complex — in Shelby County, Alabama. It is just outside Birmingham.

Legion usually plays at the city-owned, 47,000-seat Protective Stadium, known more for hosting UAB home football games and the Alabama high school state football championships. But the facility is unable to accommodate an Usher and Chris Brown concert next Tuesday and Wednesday.

United (7-4-3) is looking to extend its unbeaten match streak to 10. New Mexico is currently third in the 12-club Western Conference table.

Legion (2-5-8) is 10th in the 13-team East.
