An increase in the allocation could expand opportunities for Nigerian students seeking higher education in Hungary, particularly those who face financial barriers to studying abroad.

However, no increase in Nigeria’s scholarship allocation was announced during the visit.

Applications Expected to Open in November

Braimah also encouraged eligible Nigerians to take advantage of the scholarship programme when the next application window opens in November 2026.

The embassy urged prospective applicants to prepare for the application period and explore the opportunities available through the programme.

The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme is part of Hungary’s efforts to promote international educational cooperation by enabling students from other countries to study at participating Hungarian institutions.

For Nigerian students, the programme provides an opportunity to pursue higher education in Hungary through a scholarship scheme designed to support international academic exchange.

An expanded allocation for Nigeria could allow more qualified applicants to benefit from the programme, although the number of additional slots, if approved, remains unknown.

Nigeria, Hungary Seek Stronger Educational Ties

The discussions also provided an opportunity for Nigerian and Hungarian representatives to explore ways to strengthen educational cooperation and build on existing academic links between the two countries.

Nigeria and Hungary maintain diplomatic and educational engagements, with scholarship opportunities serving as one avenue for promoting academic exchange and closer relations between their citizens.

The ambassador’s visit forms part of the Nigerian Embassy’s broader efforts to deepen bilateral relations with Hungary and support Nigerians pursuing educational opportunities in the European country.

The appeal for additional scholarship slots comes as prospective Nigerian applicants prepare for the next application window. Whether the request will lead to an increased allocation remains to be seen, as no new quota was confirmed following the meeting.

For now, eligible students have been encouraged to prepare for applications expected to open in November 2026 and review the programme’s requirements ahead of the next selection process.
