Nigeria has huge market for electric vehicles – Transport expert, Oyeyemi

An expert in logistics and transportation businesses, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, has disclosed that Nigeria has a huge market for Electric Vehicles.

He said this during an interaction with journalists, noting that investors in that sector will not regret it.

Oyeyemi, who is a former Federal Road Safety Corps Marshal, posited that Nigeria remains “one of the largest automotive markets in Africa.

He disclosed further that there are vast opportunities in the assembly, components sales, and aftermarket services in the sector.

He spoke during a conference call in Calabar about the many benefits of electric vehicles to Nigerians as well as the attendant socioeconomic impacts they could have in the country.

Oyeyemi urged the federal government to adopt a long-term auto policy that focuses on “local value creation” instead of frequent policy changes.

Remarking on the 30th Anniversary of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, CILT, Oyeyemi urged Nigeria to stop “wasting time in the development of policy that changes with every administration, as it adds little or no value to the economy.

Oyeyemi urged the federal government to adopt a long-term auto policy for local value creation, pointing out that South Africa, Morocco, and Ethiopia have become models in the Motoring World.

He lamented that Nigeria is “still losing many lives with many families still being destroyed by crashes that could have been prevented had an auto policy been in place.
