Nico Gonzalez set to sign new Juventus contract

· · 2 min read

Nico Gonzalez is set to sign a new contract with Juventus in the coming days, according to Camillo Demichelis of TuttoMercatoWeb. The report says an agreement has been reached following the Argentina international’s return from a season on loan at Atletico Madrid.

Luciano Spalletti played a central role in persuading Gonzalez to remain in Turin. The Juventus coach spoke to the winger during the World Cup and made clear that he wanted him in his squad for the new season.

TMW reports that the club has been impressed by Gonzalez’s application since his return, including his defensive work and greater involvement in the team’s play. That response has helped convince the Juventus hierarchy to proceed with a renewal.

Gonzalez’s existing contract runs until 2029. The length of the proposed extension and its financial terms were not specified in the latest report, with the signature still to follow.

The 28-year-old joined Atletico Madrid on loan in September 2025, but the conditions for a permanent transfer were not met. La Gazzetta dello Sport previously reported that Atletico wanted to negotiate a lower fee, which Juventus was unwilling to accept.

Gonzalez had initially been interested in returning to Diego Simeone’s side. He eventually resumed work with Juventus, returning to the Continassa training ground in August after his extended break following the World Cup.

His first move to Turin came from Fiorentina in 2024, on a loan deal covering the 2024-25 season. Juventus made the transfer permanent the following summer before sending him to Spain, and he is now back playing in Serie A.

Gonzalez opened the scoring in Juventus’s 2-0 win over Parma on August 29. He came on in the 56th minute and scored six minutes later, with Teun Koopmeiners also finding the net as Juventus recorded its second league victory of the season.
