Players go down every Sunday, but the latest round of injuries produced especially strong reactions. The Baltimore Ravens watched their playoff hopes absorb an enormous blow, or blows, the Arizona Cardinals’ top draft pick was denied another opportunity to showcase his ample talents, and most devastatingly, the Detroit Lions watched one of their own get stretchered away to the hospital.

We are going to take a closer look at these troubling injuries and the other notable exits that transpired during the Week 8 slate.

Jack Campbell, Lions

The All-Pro linebacker suffered an apparent neck injury while trying to make a tackle versus the Minnesota Vikings. It was a deeply somber scene, which ended with Jack Campbell being transported to a local hospital in Michigan. He is still recovering, but Lions head coach Dan Campbell felt “positive” about his visit with the 26-year-old. Many players also went to see their teammate.

The organization released an official statement that seemed encouraging, but limited information was made available out of respect to Jack Campbell’s family. Keep him in your prayers.

Additionally, DJ Reed is dealing with a hip issue and Cade Mays left with a low-ankle sprain after recently returning.

Lamar Jackson, Ravens

Back from a high-ankle sprain that cost him about a month, Baltimore superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson got hit in the hand while trying to make his first pass since Oct. 4. He exited and was quickly ruled out for the remainder of Sunday afternoon’s showdown with the Buffalo Bills. The two-time MVP requires surgery and is going on injured reserve, where he could remain for the rest of the season.

The Ravens have been in this spot before, but they have had the luxury of leaning on competent backup Tyler Huntley. He sustained a toe injury and also left the game, forcing head coach Jesse Minter to employ emergency QB Joe Fagnano. Naturally, the Bills sent constant pressure his way. More of the same could happen on Thursday versus the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jackson’s brutal setback does more than just create uncertainty in the present. Negotiations for a new contract could get a little more complicated following another lengthy injury stint.

Jeremiyah Love, Cardinals

Arizona boldly, and perhaps recklessly, selected a running back with the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL Draft despite failing to lock down its long-term quarterback situation (at least as far as we know), but the saving grace of that move was that fans would get to see the dynamic Jeremiyah Love consistently put on a show. A nagging high-ankle sprain ruined that plan for the first half of the campaign, and now a new ankle injury threatens to hamper the second half of his rookie year.

Love logged just nine carries for 23 yards during the Cardinals’ eventual 33-30 comeback win over the Dallas Cowboys and has not scored a rushing touchdown since Week 1. The former Notre Dame star cannot catch a break, and neither can this fan base. Hopefully, the thrill of angering Jerry Jones will ease some of the disappointment everyone is feeling.

Kendrick Bourne had a much worse day, however. A little more than two years after tearing his ACL, the 10th-year wide receiver suffered a fractured tibia. His campaign is done.

Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson, Rams

The Los Angeles Rams invested a significant amount of money and draft capital in acquiring former Kansas City Chiefs cornerbacks Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson, and that proactive approach has yielded impressive production thus far. They cannot afford to lose them now, not when the team is finally building momentum.

The pair of two-time Super Bowl champions both checked out early of LA’s 24-9 victory versus the Los Angeles Chargers. McDuffie is nursing a back issue but was evidently feeling much better on Monday. Watson aggravated his shoulder injury and could face more obstacles in his quest to suit up for Sunday’s road matchup against the Washington Commanders.

Leonard Williams, Seahawks

The reigning champion Seattle Seahawks got a rude awakening in their 34-17 home loss to the Chicago Bears, but they will have a hard time regrouping if Leonard Williams is sidelined. The Second-Team All-Pro defensive tackle left with a stinger and was considered questionable to return.

Williams has three sacks, 17 solo tackles and five stuffs this season. He is an important member of a Seattle defense that is already looking quite vulnerable after Monday night’s mauling in Lumen Field.

Grady Jarrett, Bears

It was not all good news for Chicago. Veteran DT and former Second-Team All-Pro Grady Jarrett exited with a groin injury, putting his status in question for Sunday night’s face-off with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. At 33 years of age, he may not heal as fast as he once did.

The Jeffery Simmons acquisition is looking even more valuable.

Cowboys suffer a slew of injuries during epic collapse

Dallas blew a 24-10 lead in the fourth quarter and failed to capitalize on a Chad Ryland gift, falling on its home field against what was supposed to be a very beatable Cardinals squad. There are big problems in Jerry World, and they got even worse following the latest injury updates.

NFL Week 8 injury roundup: Lamar

Cornerback Joey Porter Jr., multi-time Pro Bowl Tight end Jake Ferguson and rookie edge rusher Malachi Lawrence all suffered ankle injuries. Lawrence’s issue is believed to be more serious than the other two, per ESPN NFL Nation’s Todd Archer. Caleb Downs and fellow safety P.J. Locke are both in concussion protocol.

Someone get Jerry Jones another table to pound.

DaVon Hamilton, Jaguars

The seventh-year interior defensive lineman was dependable run defense for a Jacksonville Jaguars team that is allowing an NFL-best 77.4 rushing yards per game. He will no longer be able to fortify that unit. DaVon Hamilton suffered a torn quadriceps in a 42-7 thumping of the Indianapolis Colts. He is done for the rest of the season.

Safety Eric Murray also sustained a campaign-ending injury (elbow).
