San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk was fined $14,926 for his celebration on a touchdown during the team’s game against the Miami Dolphins.
It was announced on Thursday that Juszczyk’s celebration in the third quarter violated Rule 12, Section 3, Article.
“Your imitation of chugging a beer constituted an offensive demonstration and could reasonably be construed as being in poor taste. Players are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects positively on the game and is consistent with NFL standards of sportsmanship,” said the statement from the NFL.
The 49ers player instantly pushed back on social media, with support from some other players as well, including Ja’Marr Chase.
“I don’t know how else to say it,” Juszczyk said. “I wasn’t drinking beer in my celebration. I think you guys all know my nickname is Juice. I have juice on my pads. The stadium yells ‘Juice’ when I catch the ball. When I celebrate, I celebrate by drinking juice, and it’s been that way for years. I was as surprised as anybody when I got a fine.”
Like the players, even fans were confused about what led to the fine.
Fans not happy with Juszczyk’s fine
The 49ers ended up beating the Dolphins 35-13. In what appeared to be a stellar win for the team, Juszczyk ended up with a hefty fine, which is the second one for him already this season.
His earlier fine was for $20,033 and came during the Week 1 game against the LA Rams for unnecessary roughness.
However, fans were not in agreement with the NFL’s decision to fine the player this time around, as they thought there was nothing wrong with the celebration.
“The NFL has somehow made imaginary beer more expensive than stadium beer,” said one fan.
“Also, how can they be sure the imaginary drink is beer?” another added.
A user also added, “The fines are kind of getting ridiculous at this point. I hope he gets the appeal”
Someone also had a sarcastic comment about what the league should have done. “Some beers do taste poorly so perhaps they could ask him what type of beer it was, then pass judgment?” the account user added.
Another explained, “His brand logo is even a “Juice” box!”
Juszczyk was not the only NFL player to be fined for the celebration. Indianapolis Colts guard Matt Goncalves was also fined for a similar celebration during the team’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The 49ers player has already appealed the fine and is awaiting the result, which could take some time.
