According to Football Insider, Newcastle are increasingly open to selling Joe Willock during the January transfer window with the midfielder in the final year of his contract.
Newcastle have yet to open discussions over a new deal with the 27-year-old, raising doubts about his long-term future at St James’ Park. As a result, club officials are reportedly viewing the January window as their final realistic opportunity to secure a transfer fee before Willock potentially leaves as a free agent.
Willock was heavily linked with a move away over the summer. Besiktas saw two offers rejected, including an improved bid in August, but the Turkish side remain interested and are expected to revive their pursuit when the transfer window reopens.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Willock has started the season strongly under Matthias Jaissle, scoring twice in his first five Premier League appearances. The Newcastle manager reportedly values the midfielder highly and was keen to retain him during the summer.
However, with contract negotiations yet to begin, the Magpies may ultimately decide to cash in rather than risk losing one of their longest-serving players for nothing.
