New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh addressed several injury and role questions on Friday as the team prepared for Sunday’s road game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
On running back Cam Skattebo, who is listed as doubtful, Harbaugh kept the situation open while confirming limited activity.
“Yeah, let’s keep it open. Let’s keep it open, let’s see what happens,” Harbaugh told reporters.
Asked whether Skattebo was able to do anything at practice, the coach was direct.
“No,” Harbaugh said.
Wide receiver Malik, who sat out Thursday, returned to full participation on Friday and is expected to be available.
“He practiced fully. He was full participation. It’s not an issue. He’ll be full-go for the game,” Harbaugh said.
Harbaugh described the previous day’s absence as an in-season matter rather than a longer-term concern.
Wide receiver Charlie Jones continues to manage a thumb issue and took part in catching drills during practice. Harbaugh said the goal was simply to confirm Jones could catch, and he had not yet spoken with the receiver about how the thumb felt afterward.
On special teams, safety Jevon Holland is listed as the backup punt returner. Harbaugh said using an every-down starter in that role is not the preferred option.
“Not ideal. If we have to do it, we will. But not ideal,” Harbaugh said. “Jevon’s really good. I don’t have any worries, any qualms about Jevon at all. Knowing him, he’d be thrilled if he gets an opportunity to do it. The more he can do. He’d be very capable of doing very well, but it wouldn’t be the ideal.”
The updates come as the Giants prepare for a division matchup that Harbaugh has identified as important to their goal of winning the NFC East. Roster decisions and player availability remain ongoing topics heading into the week.
