New report suggests George Kittle is on track to play vs. Rams in Week 1

The San Francisco 49ers are already banged up before even playing a preseason game, but one of their biggest stars is trending toward being ready for Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams.

According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, Kittle is making “terrific progress” in his recovery from a torn Achilles and “there’s a high level of confidence at this point” that he’ll be able to play in the opener against the Rams.

Kittle has expressed confidence in being available for that game, and it seems he’s progressing quickly enough to make that a reality. He did admit it’d be a challenge, though, especially with a long flight to Australia.

The 49ers will already be without Ricky Pearsall, who’s going to miss the entire season with a PCL injury, and Mike Evans is currently nursing a quad injury but expects to be ready for Week 1.

San Francisco has dealt with a rash of injuries in recent years and it has already continued this offseason, but if Kittle is available for the opener, it’ll be a huge boost to the 49ers offense – and a real test for the Rams’ new-look defense.
