The Los Angeles Rams and superstar Myles Garrett made a key adjustment to his historic contract after the blockbuster trade.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Rams and Garrett did not agree on a new deal; they reworked his contract that pays him $204 million over five years.

The #Rams and star edge Myles Garrett did not agree on a new deal. Instead, they did rework his contract that pays him $204M over 5 years – essentially what he was making. The average per year and term remain the same as his deal was in Cleveland.

There were reports earlier in the day that suggested that the Rams and Garrett agreed on a new deal, but that was not the case.

Instead, they modified the structure of the contract that the 30-year-old superstar already had.

Rams adjust Myles Garrett contract structure for cap flexibility

What changed was that the Rams adjusted the timing of the guarantees. Certain guaranteed portions of Garrett’s contract now become fully guaranteed later than they originally would have.

The Rams needed the flexibility to fit the deal into their salary-cap planning. Pushing back the vesting dates means the Rams gain more offseason flexibility, and it becomes easier to absorb the two-time Defensive Player of the Year’s contract after the trade.

Ultimately, the newest member of the Rams did not take a pay cut, nor did he receive a raise. Los Angeles simply adjusted when portions of his already-existing guarantees would kick in while keeping the overall deal intact.

Garrett was traded to the Rams on Monday in a blockbuster trade that included L.A. sending Pro Bowler Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick and a 2029 third-round pick.

The Rams are going ‘all in” once again and have built the best roster possible to capture that Lombardi Trophy once again.
