The New England Revolution have acquired center back Tylon Smith on loan from EFL Championship side Queens Park Rangers, the club announced Thursday.
The 21-year-old South African defender’s loan lasts through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season and includes a purchase option.
“Tylon Smith is a promising player who will help strengthen our defense,” said Revolution general manager and chief soccer officer Chris Tierney.
“At just 21 years old, Tylon has built a strong foundation through both his club and youth national team experience. We’re confident that this is the ideal environment for Tylon to continue his development and we look forward to welcoming him to New England.”
Smith began his career with South African Premiership side Stellenbosch FC, featuring predominantly for the club’s reserves before signing with the first team in October 2024.
He then signed with QPR in July 2025, featuring for the club’s U-21s and making four first-team appearances (all competitions).
Smith was named to South Africa’s roster for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Additionally, he was named Player of the Tournament as South Africa won the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations and he helped Bafana Bafana make the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup Round of 16.
New England are third in the Eastern Conference table with 30 points. Marko Mitrović is in his first season as head coach.
