Nets vs. Bucks summer league preview: How to watch, things to note

The Brooklyn Nets (0-1) are in the midst of the California Classic that they hope will give the rookies and second-year players plenty of opportunities to put their offseason training to the test. Brooklyn has a lot riding on the younger players on the roster and next, they have a matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday. If you’re looking to get ready for the game, you’ve come to the right place!

The Nets enter this game following a 79-76 loss to the Sacramento Kings on Saturday in which Egor Demin had 23 points and seven rebounds while Chaney Johnson had 10 points and 10 rebounds in just 10 minutes. Brooklyn did a good job of limiting Kings guard Darius Acuff Jr. in the early going, but he still finished the game with 25 points and the game-winning assist to Nique Clifford.

The Bucks enter this matchup after a 97-83 win over the Golden State Warriors Blue with Brandon Boston Jr. putting up 17 points and four rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench while Bogoljub Markovic had 16 points and six rebounds. Brooklyn will have to play solid for four quarters if they’re going to beat a Milwaukee team that is looking formidable at this point in the Classic.

Here’s what you need to know to get ready for the Nets’ matchup against the Bucks on Sunday:

  • Date: Sunday, Jul. 5

  • Time: 3:00 PM ET

  • Location: Golden 1 Center, Sacramento, CA

  • Channel: NBA TV/Prime Video/ESPN+

Location: Golden 1 Center, Sacramento, CA

  • Egor Demin had 23 points and seven rebounds in 24 minutes, but he also shot 8-of-15 from the field and 2-of-8 from the free-throw line. Demin had two turnovers to one assist, but he also picked up just one foul in what otherwise was an efficient performance on both ends of the floor.
  • Chaney Johnson had a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double, but he could have had a better day if he didn’t pick up five fouls. Granted, you’re allowed to rack up 10 fouls before being taken out of a Summer League, but it makes sense to sub guys out either way just to reset their momentum. Aside from the fouls, Johnson had himself quite the day.

  • Summer League coach Dutch Gaitley said after the game that Mikel Brown Jr. did not play on Saturday due to the nature of three games being played in three days before the team heads to Las Vegas. However, he did say that Brown is slated to play on Monday.

  • Gaitley also said that Wolf did not play on Saturday due to lower back soreness and that the team did not want to push him just because it’s summer league play. It sounds like Wolf’s back will be something to monitor, not only for the rest of the Classic, but for the Las Vegas Summer League later on this week as well.
