Netflix Is Officially On Fire With Perfect Companion To 58M Action-Thriller

Netflix seems to have found its next big crime thriller. The platform has a history of such thrillers doing well across both its English-language and non-English-language titles. Several of the platform’s top 10 most streamed shows include crime thrillers, such as Adolescence and Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. This genre’s success only becomes clearer when looking also at the non-English language titles. Their past success in this realm includes several highly-rated seasons of the crime action thriller Money Heist, a Spanish-language show.

Netflix’s latest hit crime drama is The Fall of El Mayo. With both Spanish and English spoken, this title is a true crime docuseries following the story of the rise and fall of El Mayo, the infamous partner in crime of “El Chapo.” The series spans three episodes and is currently available on Netflix. It just released on October 29. The Fall of El Mayo is directed by Miguel Fernandez-Flores and Darren Foster, with producers including Zoey Haar, Keegan Hamilton, and Miguel Angel Vega. Foster executive produces alongside Mariana van Zeller and Jennifer Wood.

Just a few days after its release on the platform, The Fall of El Mayo has quickly risen to Netflix success. As of today, November 2, The Fall of El Mayo has taken the no. 2 spot on Netflix, second only to The One About Matthew Perry. It has maintained a top 10 slot for four days now, exemplifying its instant success on the streaming platform. This status includes regional successes in the United States, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Argentina, and Ireland, among others.

Viewers Already Have Multiple Perfect Things To Watch After

Fans of The Fall of El Mayo are in luck, because Netflix has other similar titles readily available to watch after viewers finish this latest three-episode series. Those who want more insight into the other major cartel leader’s story, El Chapo, can check out the movie Facing El Chapo, which came out on Netflix earlier this year. This movie was a big hit upon its release, racking up over 18 million views in its first week and surpassing many of the English-language movies in view count.

Those looking for series treatment of a drug cartel after The Fall of El Mayo should check out Narcos. The Emmy-nominated series originally ran from 2015 to 2017, and was extremely popular on Netflix. So much so that the show got a follow-up spinoff called Narcos: Mexico, which became a mega-hit that got over 50 million views in its first week on the platform alone. It seems, then, that Netflix is the perfect place for a drug crime story like The Fall of El Mayo, as it will drive even further success on the platform with these closely related titles.
