Nebraska wrestling picked up another major transfer from the portal this past week. Cornell 157-pound transfer Meyer Shapiro announced his commitment to the Huskers.
The three-time All-American finished this past season 18-4, placing second at the Ivy League Tournament and 8th at the NCAA tournament. He was named Ivy League Wrestler of the Year for the second consecutive season. In his career, Shapiro is 60-10.
The Woodbine, Maryland, native previously finished fifth and third at 157 pounds at the NCAA tournament in his sophomore and freshman seasons, respectively. Shapiro also won the Ivy League championship in his weight class as a sophomore and tied the school single season record with 10 wins by tech fall as a freshman.
He now joins NCAA Champion Vincent Robinson (NC State, 125 pounds), two-time All-American Anthony Echemendia (Iowa State, 149 pounds) and Lucas Cochran (Penn State, 184 pounds) at Nebraska. Shapiro holds two years of eligibility left, but is planning to sit out this year to train and get fully healthy.
