A former Nebraska All-American made the American League All-Star Futures roster on Wednesday. Infielder Max Anderson was added by Major League Baseball to play in the 2026 All-Star Futures Game.
Anderson joins 25 prospects on the American League roster that will go against the National League team as part of the MLB All-Star break. He is the sixth Husker all-time to be selected and the third in the last four years.
Brice Matthews was selected in 2025 and Spencer Schwellenbach was selected in 2023. Other notable Huskers selected were Joba Chamberlain (2007), Alex Gordon (2006) and Jamal Strong (2001). All eventually reached the Major Leagues after playing in the Futures Game.
Anderson is a 2023 second-round pick and is currently playing for the Toledo Mud Hens, a Triple-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, after spending a bit of time with the Lakeland Flying Tigers. Through 57 games this season, the former Husker is slashing .307/.353/.518 with 70 hits, 36 RBIs, 13 doubles, 11 home runs and one triple.
Anderson shone brightly at Nebraska, culminating in a senior season in which he batted .414 with 101 hits, 20 doubles, 2 triples, 21 home runs, and 70 RBIs. Now, he gets the opportunity to potentially take the next step and get called up by the Tigers.
The Futures Game is set for Sunday, July 12 at Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park. The game will be televised nationally on NBC at 11 a.m. CT.
