- Fraternities and sororities have cultural dominance on many US college campuses.
- Ties to Greek life organizations can last long after college and offer access to powerful networks.
- Nearly a third of the US Senate comprises Greek life alumns from across the nation.
In the 119th Congress, just under a third of US senators are affiliated with a Greek organization, according to the Fraternity and Sorority Political Action Committee, which aims to “help more Greek alumnae get elected to the House or Senate for the first time.”
In years with congressional races throughout the country, the political action committee — often nicknamed the “Frat PAC” — can play a significant financial role. In the 2023-24 election cycle, the PAC raised over $900,000. Today, it has raised over $650,000 for the 2025-26 cycle, toward a $1 million goal.
While funding goes toward the campaigns of Greek-life alumns, the committee does not align with one party over the other. FSPAC said that in the 2023-24 cycle, 52% of funds went to Republican candidates and 48% to Democratic candidates out of the 97 congressional campaigns it donated to.
