NBA insider puts Kyrie Irving trade rumors to rest

NBA insider Marc J. Spears recently weighed in on the Kyrie Irving trade speculation with the Dallas Mavericks. According to Spears, he expects the former Blue Devil to stay with the Mavericks for at least the beginning of the year.

“I do think he’ll be back on the roster,” Spears said. “I know their owner is really, really high on seeing him and Cooper Flagg play together. And then Masai Ujiri had said in his introductory press conference that he wanted to see that as well.”

After Irving was sidelined for the entire 2025-26 campaign due to an ACL tear, Duke fans now seem likely to see two of their former No. 1 overall draft picks share the court together. With only six No. 1 overall picks in the school’s history, two of them pairing up will be a first for Blue Devils supporters.
