The Giannis Antetokounmpo trade sweepstakes may conclude within the next week, just before the first round of the 2026 NBA Draft on June 23. It appears that the Miami Heat and the Celtics are the two teams competing for his services, but Boston may not currently be in the lead.
ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel stated on Tuesday that there is a belief among agents and scouts that Antetokounmpo is heading to Miami.
“Although there is a lot of talk of other teams potentially being in the mix, including the Boston Celtics, the overwhelming belief among agents and scouts around the NBA is that Antetokounmpo is heading to South Beach,” Siegel wrote. “This means a package of Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., the No. 13 pick and additional assets will be leaving Miami.”
It has sounded for months like Antetokounmpo would be heading to Miami. However, over the last week, there has been a significant buzz indicating that the Celtics have engaged in talks with the Bucks. Many believe Boston could close a deal because it can offer Jaylen Brown, a top-15 NBA player, whereas the Heat doesn’t have anyone of that caliber to trade.
There could always be a surprise team that trades for Antetokounmpo, one that isn’t the Celtics or the Heat. Yet it seems increasingly likely that he will be heading to Miami.
