Napoli set to miss out on Gabriel Jesus as Barcelona agree terms with Arsenal

Multiple outlets are reporting that Barcelona have moved quickly to secure a deal with Arsenal for attacker Gabriel Jesus, despite the fact that he had been heavily tipped with a move to join Napoli before the close of the summer transfer window.

Done deal: Napoli lose Jesus to Barcelona

According to reports from various outlets, initially from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona will pay a fee in the region of €10m to sign Jesus from Arsenal. The Brazil international is into the final year of his contract at The Emirates.

Jesus is expected to put pen to paper on a two-year contract with an option for an additional 12 months at Camp Nou.

Jesus had also been linked with a move to join Napoli before the close of the summer transfer window.

His agent, who by coincidence also represents Napoli head coach Massimiliano Allegri, had been spotted at the Partenopei pre-season training camp on several occasions during the summer transfer window.

His agent had insisted that he was only in Italy for meetings with Allegri, and not to discuss Jesus with Napoli, though.

Napoli still want another centre-forward before the close of the summer transfer window to lighten the load on Rasmus Hojlund’s shoulders.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Chelsea’s Marc Guiu and Newcastle’s Nick Woltemade are among the list of Napoli’s potential alternatives.
