Morales hits grand slam but Red Wings fall to Lehigh Valley

The Rochester Red Wings erased a four-run deficit but could not keep pace with Lehigh Valley in an 11-9 loss Thursday in the second game of a doubleheader.

The IronPigs took the lead for good in the sixth inning and secure the win after the Wings dropped the resumed opener, 18-3.

The Red Wings trailed 4-0 in the second inning before Phillip Glasser singled to drive in a run and Yohandy Morales hit a grand slam to give them a 5-4 lead.

Otto Kemp hit a two-run homer in the third to give Lehigh Valley a 6-5 lead, but the Red Wings answered in the bottom half. Trey Lipscomb hit a two-run homer in the third inning to put Rochester ahead 7-6.

The IronPigs scored five runs in the sixth inning off reliever Luke Young. Paul McIntosh and Bryan De La Cruz singled before Berroa’s infield single tied the game. Reyes hit his 19th homer to give Lehigh Valley a 10-7 lead. Tommy Pham singled and scored on Anthony’s RBI hit to make it 11-7.

The Red Wings scored in the bottom of the sixth to make it 11-8 but were unable to score in the seventh despite a leadoff triple by Brady House.

Glasser finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and Andrew Pinckney had two hits, including a double, two runs and his 15th stolen base.

Kirby Snead pitched three innings of two-run ball to improve to 5-1.

Rochester used six pitchers. Luke Young took the loss after allowing five runs in the sixth inning.
