Mookie Betts Stays Hot, Leads DodgersThe Los Angeles Dodgers secured a three-game sweep over the Washington Nationals on Sunday, winning the final game by a score of 7-5.
The Dodgers scored the first run of the game in the third inning, but had to come from behind twice later in the game to earn their hard fought win. Mookie Betts drove in the first run of the game for the Dodgers with an RBI groundout in the third.
Justin Wrobleski got the start for the Dodgers, posting three scoreless innings to start the game, but the Nationals got to him in the top of the fourth.
The left-hander allowed a leadoff home run in the fourth frame, then allowed four consecutive hits to make the score 4-1. He exited the game before recording an out in the fourth. Wrobleski hasn’t been at his best since the All-Star break, posting a 7.07 ERA across all of his second-half appearances heading into Sunday’s game, and his rough start marked the second outing in a row during which he has allowed more runs than innings pitched.
The Dodgers didn’t let the three-run deficit deter them, though, as they surged back for three runs in the fifth inning. Tommy Edman stayed hot, bringing home Max Muncy with a one-run double, and Will Smith brought home Edman with a single shortly after.
Teoscar Hernandez also got in on the action, scoring Smith with a single of his own.
Bobby Miller came in for the Dodgers in the sixth inning, making his first appearance in the majors since May 2025, struggled to keep runners of the bags. He allowed a leadoff triple, followed by a walk, but managed to get the lead runner out on a fielder’s choice. A groundout advanced the runners to second and third base, and the Dodgers opted to intentionally walk All-Star James Wood to load the bases with two outs.
They didn’t get out scot free, unfortunately, as Miller plunked Dylan Crews to bring home the go ahead run. Afterwards, though, Miller recorded the final out of the inning and produced two scoreless frames afterwards with a little help from Kyle Tucker, who robbed a home run in the eighth.
LA made their breakthrough the following half-inning, when Alex Call and Tommy Edman both reached base with two outs. Betts stepped to the plate, and hit a three-run homer to give the Dodgers a 7-5 lead.
Edgardo Henriquez came in to close the game in the ninth, and shut the door on the Nationals to give the Dodgers their fourth straight win.
The Dodgers are entering the final leg of their three-series homestand on Monday, when they will face the Cincinnati Reds at 7:10 p.m. PT.
