Formula One executives have published the 2027 schedule, confirming a 24-race calendar set to launch in Bahrain and featuring two events in Monaco.
The publication of next year’s timetable was delayed due to ongoing conflict in the Middle East following the United States-Iran war.
F1 remains hopeful of starting the campaign on March 14 in Bahrain, before heading to Saudi Arabia seven days later.
Both races were removed from this year’s schedule, although a ‘Bahrain Grand Prix’ will be hosted in Malaysia this October.
As things stand, the current season is still set to finish in the Middle East, with rounds in Qatar and Abu Dhabi scheduled for November 29 and December 6. Imola will serve as a replacement venue if those events cannot take place.
For 2027, the number of sprint rounds will increase from six to 10, with Monaco hosting a shortened race for the first time.
Deciding to hold a second race in Monte Carlo – where overtaking is notoriously difficult – may prompt some surprise.
However, F1 hierarchy hopes providing fans with an extra qualifying session, required for the sprint setup, will deliver sufficient entertainment.
Qualifying in the principality is considered one of the campaign’s finest tests, and there have long been calls to refresh the traditional fixture.
Elsewhere, circuits in Portimao and Istanbul return to the calendar in June and October respectively, taking the places of Barcelona and Zandvoort.
The British Grand Prix retains its regular date on the first weekend of July, avoiding a clash with the climax of Wimbledon and the men’s Open golf championship.
Silverstone is set to stage a sprint race for a second consecutive year. Beside Monaco, shortened rounds will be held in Bahrain, Australia, Japan, Canada, Monza, Brazil, Qatar and the finale in Abu Dhabi over the weekend of December 11-12.
