Mock trade proposal sends Heat guard Tyler Herro to the Houston Rockets

After failing to reach an agreement on a contract extension last fall, Tyler Herro’s future with the Miami Heat seems to be in jeopardy as he enters the final year of his contract. While Herro and the Heat will be able to renegotiate this summer, there’s reason to believe that Miami could trade the former Kentucky product if the two sides are unable to come to terms on a new deal.

A recent article by Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz ranked possible landing spots for Herro, and the Rockets came in at No. 3. In Swartz’s proposed deal, he has the Rockets acquiring Herro and the No. 41 overall pick from Miami for Jabari Smith Jr. and Clint Capela. Considering Capela’s limited usage last season, his departure wouldn’t be a major subtraction. However, it’s worth noting that Smith Jr. may be difficult to give up without an extension in place for Herro, as Smith Jr. is under team control for the next five seasons.

While acquiring Herro would add another proven scorer and shot-creator, Houston would need to address their lack of depth on the wing after Smith Jr.’s departure, considering another wing player, Tari Eason, will be a restricted free agent this summer.
