Marko Mitrovic has urged the New England Revolution to keep getting the “most out of every action” as they aim to get back to winning ways against New York City FC in MLS.
The Revs were beaten 2-1 by the LA Galaxy at the weekend, snapping their three-game unbeaten streak in the league (W2 D1), with that draw coming against NYCFC.
Mitrovic’s side dominated Saturday’s clash, racking up 24 shots worth 2.6 expected goals (xG), while also hitting the woodwork three times, but they could only find a late consolation from the penalty spot.
Despite the loss, which leaves them fourth in the Eastern Conference, Mitrovic remained positive about the performance from his side and is confident they will bounce back on Wednesday.
“We always try to play the action on the field that is not connected with the score,” Mitrovic said, as quoted by The Blazing Musket substack.
“I felt that in any given moment, we would score. Even when we scored in the 96th minute, I still felt that we could get there if we got one more attack.
“But I would say the most important thing is that we found our success in a way that we can create and generate so many situations on the field.
“We just have to keep going. It doesn’t matter what the score is in that moment. We just have to take the most out of every action on the field.”
NYCFC have not won in MLS since late July, going six games without a victory since then, and drawing each of their last three.
They did hold Eastern Conference leaders Nashville SC to a 0-0 draw at the weekend, and while Pascal Jansen had been hoping for a win, he noted just how important it was to stay defensively solid.
“We were in very good positions in previous games and still gave it away,” Jansen said.
“You have two, three moments in this game to get yourself on the scoreboard, so you think there’s more in it, and you forget what it is in the final stage of the game to make sure you don’t concede as well.”

NYCFC and Matt Freese kept a clean sheet against Nashville, enjoying their first shutout since a 1-0 win over Charlotte FC on May 13.
In the nine matches between, Freese conceded 13 goals from 48 shots on target faced, but he got his fourth MLS clean sheet of the campaign against Nashville, who tested him just twice.
New England Revolution – Carles Gil
Carles Gil scored his ninth MLS goal of the season against the LA Galaxy, but it was only a late consolation from the penalty spot.
Five of his goals in 2026 have been penalties, more than any other player in the league, but he has still overperformed his 8.5 expected goals (xG).
MATCH PREDICTION: NEW YORK CITY FC WIN
NYCFC were on a three-game winning streak against the Revs in MLS between April 2024 and March 2025, but they are winless in their last two clashes (D1 L1).
The Revolution’s last league match saw them beaten 2-1 by LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park, breaking a three-match unbeaten streak (W2 D1).
However, NYCFC’s unbeaten streak stretched to six games (D4 L2), with each of the last three ending level; their last victory did come at home, though, on July 25 against the Chicago Fire (3-1).
