Ahead of the 2026 NBA Finals, the New York Knicks were waiting for their opponents as the Western Conference Finals went to seven games. The Knicks swept the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals, so they earned their time to prepare.

During that period, backup center it was reported that Mitchell Robinson sustained a hand injury away from the basketball court. It drew plenty of speculation around the NBA world, but neither Robinson nor the Knicks addressed it, only saying that it was an off-court injury.

Mitchell Robinson reveals the reason behind his mysterious hand injury

A lot of Knicks fans were worried when Robinson got injured because they were set to play against the San Antonio Spurs in the Finals. They have a player called Victor Wembanyama, a center who stands at 7’5″, and Robinson is crucial to matching up with him.

Karl-Anthony Towns did a wonderful job of staying in front of Wembanyama during their previous matchups, but so did Robinson. Thankfully for the Knicks, Robinson powered through and contributed to New York’s first NBA championship in 52 years.

Now that Robinson is off to Boston, he has the freedom to address what happened before the NBA Finals started. Apparently, it was a serious situation that involved his brother, who got into a car accident, while living miles away from Mitchell.

“I am extremely protective of my siblings, whom I care for deeply. Upon returning to New York, I received an unexpected phone call, and my family members contacted me, informing me that my youngest brother had been involved in a car accident,” Robinson said in a Facebook post about the injury.

“I felt helpless. In a moment of frustration, I banged my hand on my truck. As many of you know, I have a deep affection for my trucks, but my siblings and daughter are my top priority.”

Now that he has revealed what happened, the conspiracy theories about what happened can finally be put to rest. It was a serious situation that is perfectly understandable for anyone. Thankfully, everything is okay, and Robinson can enjoy knowing he was part of an NBA championship run.
