Mitch Marner has delivered a historic performance in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final. He scored the fastest hat trick in NHL‘s cup finals history, helping the Vegas Golden Knights seize momentum in a tightly contested series against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Marner completed his three-goal burst in just 6:10 of game time, breaking a record that had stood since 1957 when Maurice Richard scored a Stanley Cup Final hat trick in 6:21. The Vegas winger also became the first player since Frank Foyston in 1919 to record four points in a single period of a Stanley Cup Final game.

Speaking on the Sportsnet broadcast, insider Elliotte Friedman summed up the magnitude of the achievement.
“The fastest hat trick in Stanley Cup Final history, six minutes and ten seconds, beating Rocket Richard’s record by 11 seconds,” Friedman said.
Marner’s playoff run has strengthened his case for the Conn Smythe Trophy, since this was his second hat trick of the playoffs. Earlier, he scored a hat trick in Game 3 of the Anaheim Ducks series. So far in the playoffs, he has 28 points in 19 games.
Host David Amber noted that the winger has become the clear front-runner if Vegas completes its championship push.
“And Conn Smythe is looking more and more close to Mitch Marner if they can obviously win the Stanley Cup, but he’s clearly the big, big front-runner right now,” Amder said. “An incredible night for Mitch.”

The turnaround is evident considering Marner scored 13 playoff goals in 70 games before this postseason compared to 10 goals in just 19 games this spring.

The difference goes beyond individual numbers. Vegas attacks in waves, allowing Marner to play without carrying the entire offensive burden. With players such as Jack Eichel, Mark Stone, and William Karlsson sharing responsibilities, opponents cannot focus exclusively on shutting him down.
The Stanley Cup Final entered Game 3 tied 1-1 after two one-goal games in Raleigh. Marner’s record-setting explosion may prove to be the defining moment of the series.
