Thamel shared the update in a post on X on October 29, confirming that the surgery had taken place that morning. His latest report followed an earlier update that the Mississippi State quarterback would require surgery and miss the rest of the season.

In his X post, Thamel wrote, “Kamario Taylor had successful surgery this morning, per a source. His return timeline is expected to be typical of turf toe surgeries, somewhere around three months. A full recovery is expected. Dr. Norman Waldrop of Andrews Sports Medicine performed the surgery in Birmingham.”

Before his season-ending injury, the Bulldogs QB appeared in six games, completing 65.4% of his passes for 1,460 yards, 17 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also recorded 147 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown. His 17 touchdown passes ranked among the conference’s top totals at the time of the injury.

The injury first occurred during Mississippi State’s September 26 game against Missouri. He continued playing the following week against Alabama, recording 258 passing yards and three touchdowns, along with two interceptions and a lost fumble in a 56–23 defeat. He subsequently missed the October 17 game against LSU before returning against Oklahoma on October 24.

However, the injury worsened during the Oklahoma game. The Bulldogs QB attempted five passes and was sacked three times before leaving the contest. Mississippi State eventually lost 23–15, extending its losing streak to three games.

Freshman quarterback Parker “Billy” Puckett replaced him against Oklahoma after starting the previous game against LSU. Puckett completed 17 of 24 passes for 158 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Sooners. He also carried the ball seven times for 37 yards.

AJ Swann also remains available on the depth chart. Mississippi State must continue the remainder of its schedule without its injured starter.

The Bulldogs enter the remaining games with a 4–3 overall record and a 2–3 mark in SEC play.

Mississippi State will continue its season with Puckett and Swann as quarterback options while Taylor begins his rehabilitation process ahead of the 2027 campaign.
