Misiorowski Puts Together Another Stellar Start as Brewers Defeat Rockies 7-1

Let’s see if you’ve heard this before. Jason Misiorowski goes seven innings, allows just four hits, and tosses some 100-mph pitches in the mix. That was the case on Saturday night as Misiorowski carried the Milwaukee Brewers over the Colorado Rockies 7-1 at Coors Field in Denver.

Misiorowski goes to 7-2 this season. He did give up a run, but it wasn’t earned. Misiorowski walked three and struck out eight Rockies, lowering his ERA to a spectacular 1.50. But he clocked in a 103-mph pitch.

Grant Anderson, who took a wicked line drive off of his arm recently, appeared to be just fine. He pitched one inning and walked one and struck out one. Drew Rom worked a scoreless ninth inning.

Scary Moment for Rockies

But there was a scary moment when Misiorowski hit the Rockies’ Tyler Freeman in the head with one of his pitches. Freeman’s helmet came off his head and Brewers catcher William Contreras immediately reached out. The Rockies’ trainer and manager Warren Schaeffer came out to check on Freeman. He left the game.

The Brewers also brought out the home run bats in hitter-friendly Coors Field.

Brice Turang hit his eighth home run in the first inning. It was a solo shot and put Milwaukee up 1-0. David Hamilton came up with two outs in the second inning and smacked his third home run this season. The Brewers grew their lead to 2-0.

The Rockies scored their lone run in the fifth inning on Kyle Karros’ 10th double to right field. Edouard Julien scored and Colorado cut into the Milwaukee lead at 2-1.

In the top of the seventh inning, Contreras hit his fifth home run, a solo blast to left-center field and the Brewers now led 3-1. Sal Frelick reached base on an error by Rockies first baseman TJ Rumfield. Jake Bauers and Blake Perkins scored, giving the Brewers a 5-1 advantage.

Then, in the top of the eighth inning, Turang slammed another home run, another solo blast, as Milwaukee grew its advantage to 6-1.

Home Runs Were Flying for Brewers

With two outs in the eighth, Bauers got into the home run feeling, too. Bauers smoked his 11th home run on a drive over the left-field wall.

Rockies starter Zach Agnos took the loss, falling to 0-1 this season. Agnos worked three innings, giving up three hits, two earned runs, walked three, and struck out one. He also gave up two home runs.

Relievers Brendan Bernardino and TJ Shook gave up a combined five runs.

Milwaukee was 0-for-6 with runners on base and left 12 runners on base. As for the Rockies, they were 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine runners on base. 

The Brewers retain their National League Central Division lead with a 41-23 record. As for the Rockies, their season record is almost upside down from the Brewers. Colorado is now 24-41 and in last place in the National League West Division.

This series ends on Sunday afternoon at Coors Field. For the Brewers, they are going to look for a series sweep.
