Militias set houses ablaze as troops repel attack in Plateau

Suspected militias on Thursday, set some houses ablaze while retreating from troops who repelled their attempted attack on Manja community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

According to security analyst, Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred at about 4:45pm on Thursday, September 17, 2026, after troops of Sector 8, Operation Enduring Peace, OPEP, received information about the movement of suspected militias towards the community.

The troops moved to intercept the assailants, who opened fire after sighting the security personnel.

The troops engaged the attackers and reportedly forced them to retreat into the forest.

However, the assailants allegedly set some houses on the outskirts of the community ablaze during their withdrawal.

The troops subsequently cleared the area and returned to base, while efforts were made to determine the extent of damage caused by the fire.

 According to the report, security personnel remained vigilant in the area as investigations continued and efforts were made to track the fleeing assailants.

“On sighting the troops, the assailants opened fire, prompting the troops to immediately engage them,” Zagazola Makama reported.
