Michigan football's 5-star edge looks ready to go vs UTEP

For the first time in his career, Michigan football five-star edge Carter Meadows is dressed on game day.

The freshman who was out the first two weeks of the season was warming up with the team prior to the game and after coach Kyle Whittingham said it looked like he’d “be good to go” in Week 3 against UTEP, he appears in position to take his first snaps with the Wolverines.

The Wolverines, however, are down a starting offensive lineman. Andrew Sprague, who’s been a mainstay at right tackle, is not in uniform and will not play in Week 3, a program spokesman confirmed to the Detroit Free Press. Sprague has played all 115 offensive snaps for the Wolverines this season and started 12 of 13 games in 2025.

Sprague was one of two offensive linemen who early in fall camp had emerged as a starter, when offensive line coach Jim Harding said the right tackle spot was “his to lose.” While U-M’s offensive line has not had a great start to the year, Sprague has been one of the more consistent pieces.

In other offensive line news, Evan Link, who started at left guard and dressed last week but did not play (which Whittingham later said was health related) is once again dressed and going through warmups. When U-M lined up in its offensive line vs. defensive line warmups, Link was taking reps at left tackle while Blake Frazier (who usually starts there) had flipped to the right side.

Nathan Efobi was at left guard, Jake Guarnera at center and Brady Norton at right guard while Andrew Babalola, the five-star from the class of 2025, is still out, as expected.

Elsewhere, the Wolverines have swapped health in the tight end room.

Hogan Hansen, who missed the first two weeks of the season, is dressed for the first time this season, but Deakon Tonielli is not suited up for undisclosed reasons. The senior caught eight passes for 72 yards in 2025, but has not seen a snap on offense this season, playing 10 snaps in each of the first two games, all on special teams.

Wide receiver Jamar Browder is also not dressed. He has not taken a snap for U-M this season.
