The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without one of their top pass-catching options on Sunday, as they have officially declared wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. out for their Week 2 contest against the New England Patriots.

The #Steelers have downgraded WR Michael Pittman Jr. to OUT for Sunday’s game with a foot injury.

Pittman Jr. initially popped up on the injury report on Wednesday with a foot injury. The wide receiver logged consecutive missed practices on Thursday and Friday with his injury, making it a long shot that he would play. After Pittman Jr. was logged as questionable to play Sunday, the Steelers have decided to err on the side of caution with the veteran receiver.

Pittman Jr. turned his three targets into three catches for 58 yards in his Steelers debut. His absence will bring increased opportunities for third-year wideout Roman Wilson, who already commanded six targets in Week 1. Rookie second-round pick Germie Bernard will also have to step into a starting role while Pittman Jr. is sidelined. The rookie receiver was held without a catch against the Atlanta Falcons, but will have an increased role against New England.
